What is the meaning of the Good Friday for you? What does this holiday mean? Another day of rest? A long holiday? Another religious holiday, you may think. What does Easter mean for you? Chocolate eggs and a rabbit? Does it make any sense? Perhaps you have some understanding of the biblical meaning of this holiday because of family traditions, or because of people around you, or maybe you have seen something about on a movie or heard about. But maybe you truly know the meaning and for some reason throughout your life, this meaning has lost importance to you, because of the tribulations of your life, pain, loss, disappointments, or perhaps you just stopped to care.
I may try to help you understand the meaning of these days and how they are so significant, not only for a particular religion, or for believers in the Bible, but important for all humanity, even if many people don't know or care. These days are a proof of love from God to all mankind and obedience of His only Son.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:16-18 NIV
To better understand why the Son of God had to die for us, we have to go back at the beginning of humanity, in Eden, in the book of Genesis, where Adam and Eve sinned against God for disobedience. For the Word of God is just and true, at that moment Adam and Eve died spiritually, lost their innocence and communion with God. But at that very moment, God already knew He would restore all things.
“Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned— To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come. But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous. The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 5:12-21 NIV
But maybe you are wondering, "Okay, all this sounds wonderful, but what does this have to do with me?"
Well, this is all about you, just as it has everything to do with everyone on this planet.
We are lost and spiritually dead, destined to die forever far from God: body, soul and spirit, because of our sinful nature inherited since the beginning of time, in summary we are sinners, even if we do not want to believe that, we disobey God in all His ways, because we are flawed and there is no good in us, even though we may think we are kind and good people, but in the depth of our soul, we know how much wickedness, selfishness, greed, lies, theft, disobedience and lust are in our souls. But now, through the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus on the cross, for love of us and obedience to the Father, we have the choice to return to the Father, to restore the communion that was lost, to be spiritually revived, saved, forgiven and to inherit with the Lord Jesus all the blessings that Lord has stored to those who believe in Him and accept His sacrifice.
The Lord Jesus is God and even though being God, Son of the Almighty Father God, He chose to come here on this earth to pay the price for our sins, even before we exist.
Do you see now? Why this is so huge and important for all of us; you, me, our families, friends and all people.
Which other God has offered Himself for love of their own creation?
Which other God is keeping an open door to His people come back to Him and offering love, peace, forgiveness and blessings?
“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” John 3:17-18 NIV
Yes, you also can accept this gift in your life just by saying to Lord Jesus that you believe in His sacrifice on the cross for your sins, that you want to be forgiven and restored for His love, that you repent for your sins and want to have a new life in Him.
You know what? Because of Lord Jesus sacrifice on the cross, now we are able to talk to Him directly, you don't need anyone else to do this for you, you can talk anywhere you are, He can listen to you right now. He doesn't care about your past, but He wants to bless your future, for better. It doesn't matter how you are. Maybe you feel unworthy, but we are all unworthy before God, for this reason Jesus died for us, or maybe you feel too sinful, don't worry, we are all sinners. He knows us better than ourselves.
You may be even thinking of Him right now, and you know what, He is just waiting for you to talk to Him and invite Him for a conversation. He loves you, truly!
I hope this message has blessed you and that you may understand that there are much more meaning in all of these holidays and on the Bible, the true celebration is awaiting for you, “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”
Luke 15:7 NIV
God bless you abundantly, in Jesus' name, Amen!
